Pregnancy Information
Pregnancy Symptoms
Are you wondering whether you might be pregnant? The most obvious and often most anticipated sign is a missed period. However, your body may begin experiencing changes even before your period is due.
Early pregnancy symptoms can vary greatly from one woman to another. The most reliable way to find out whether you are pregnant is to take a pregnancy test. Paying attention to possible early symptoms can also help you recognize when it may be time to get tested. With that in mind, here are 12 possible early signs of pregnancy.
Early Pregnancy
According to a survey conducted by the American Pregnancy Association (APA), 29% of the women surveyed identified a missed period as their first pregnancy symptom, while 25% reported nausea. We will begin with these two commonly recognized symptoms before looking at 10 additional signs. Missed Period: For many women, a missed period is the first indication that they may be pregnant. If your period is approximately one week late, pregnancy could be the reason. However, irregular menstrual cycles, stress, hormonal changes, and other factors can also cause a delayed or missed period. Nausea or Vomiting: Nausea is common during the first trimester and may or may not be accompanied by vomiting. Although it is often called “morning sickness,” it can occur at any time of the day or night. The severity varies from one woman to another. While the exact cause is not completely understood, hormonal changes during pregnancy may play a role. Other Pregnancy Signs and Symptoms Tender/Swollen Breasts Light Spotting Cramping and pain Headaches Sensitivity to Smell Change of Appetite. Mood Swings/Fatigue.
Free and Confidential Pregnancy Testing
Think you might be pregnant? You deserve clear answers without pressure or judgment. Oxford Women’s Care Center offers high-sensitivity urine pregnancy tests with results available during your appointment. These tests detect human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a hormone produced during pregnancy. Testing too early can affect your results, so our trained team will help you determine the best time to test. When taken at the right time, our pregnancy tests are up to 99% accurate and: Provided at no cost Completed in a private, confidential setting Simple and quick Reviewed with you during your appointment If your test is positive, you do not have to figure out everything at once. Our caring team will listen, answer your questions, explain your options, and connect you with helpful resources so you can make a confident, informed decision.
Ultrasound Referrals
A home pregnancy test can tell you that pregnancy hormones may be present, but it cannot tell you everything about the pregnancy. An ultrasound provides important information that a pregnancy test cannot. An ultrasound may help determine: Approximately how far along you are Whether the pregnancy is located inside the uterus Whether the pregnancy appears to be developing normally Whether cardiac activity is detected, depending on how far along you are Whether you may be carrying one baby or multiples Which pregnancy options and medical procedures may apply based on gestational age Confirming the location of the pregnancy is especially important because an ectopic pregnancy develops outside the uterus and can become life-threatening without medical care. If you think you may be pregnant and have not received an ultrasound, Oxford Women’s Care Center can provide no-cost pregnancy testing and help connect you with an ultrasound referral. Get answers. Know your next steps. You are not alone.
