Pregnant and in College?

Pregnant and in College? You Don’t Have to Figure It Out Alone
You had a plan for this semester: go to class, keep up with assignments, spend time with friends, and work toward your future. Then a positive pregnancy test brought questions you weren’t expecting.
How will I finish school?
What will my parents say?
How will my partner react?
Can I afford this?
Who can I talk to?
If you’re facing an unexpected pregnancy while in college, those questions can feel overwhelming. You may feel scared, confused, hopeful, or have several emotions at once. Whatever you’re feeling, you deserve to be heard and treated with kindness.
Start with one step
You don’t have to solve every challenge in a single afternoon. Start by identifying what you need most right now.
Is there someone to listen?
A place to ask questions?
Help finding resources?
We are someone you can trust
An unexpected pregnancy can feel lonely, especially when everyone around you seems focused on exams, weekend plans, and graduation. But you don’t have to carry this privately just because you’re unsure how people will respond.
Consider talking with a Life Coach or Mentor at Oxford Women's Care Center. Someone there will listen, respect your privacy, and help you think through your questions without pressuring you.
You deserve space to speak honestly even if you don’t know what to say yet.
Explore what support could look like
School, work, finances, housing, and relationships may all be on your mind. Each concern deserves attention, and you can work through them one at a time.
Know Your Rights
Finding out you’re pregnant while attending college can bring a lot of questions but you have rights that can help you continue your education. Title IX protects students at federally funded colleges and universities from discrimination related to pregnancy, childbirth, and recovery. It also prohibits rules that treat parents differently based on sex.
These protections can include:
Excused absences for pregnancy or childbirth for as long as your doctor determines necessary
Opportunities to complete assignments, exams, or participation credits missed during those excused absences
Reasonable adjustments for pregnancy-related needs, such as restroom breaks or accessible seating
A return to the same academic standing after a medically necessary pregnancy-related leave
Protection from harassment related to pregnancy or related conditions
Your college’s Title IX Coordinator can explain these protections and help you request support.
You don’t have to figure everything out at once. Understanding your rights can ease some of the uncertainty and help you see a path forward. Being pregnant does not mean you have to give up your educational goals.
Oxford Women’s Care Center can help you explore questions about your schedule and the resources available. We also help you with practical support. Seeking information gives you a clearer picture of what each path could involve. If you are considering abortion, we tell you the truth about all of your options.
